What Is Snooki's Ethnicity?

Snooki's ethnicity is complex because of her adoption. She was born in Santiago, Chile, on November 23, 1987, and adopted at just six months old by Andy and Helen Polizzi, Italian Americans who raised her in Marlboro, New York. She grew up fully immersed in Italian American culture — the identity she presented on Jersey Shore — while simultaneously carrying a Chilean biological heritage she only began to explore as an adult.

In 2014, a first DNA test indicated she had European, Asian, and Jewish ancestry. A second DNA test in January 2019 showed she is of Native Chilean and European descent. Her biological parents had other children and could not afford to raise another, which led to her adoption.

She has described her identity as: "I'm Chilean but I grew up Italian [American]. I feel like I'm both."

DNA Test Results

Snooki has undergone DNA ancestry testing twice:

• 2014: Results indicated European, Asian, and Jewish ancestry.
• January 2019: Results indicated Native Chilean and European descent.

The variation between the two tests reflects the known variability of commercial DNA testing. The 2019 result — Native Chilean and European descent — is consistent with the mixed indigenous-European heritage typical of Chilean population genetics (descendants of both Indigenous Chileans and Spanish colonizers).
